About the Event
Sword and Shield covers many periods from classical Greece and Rome, mediaeval and into the 18th century in Scotland. Like the broadsword it's a favourite of historical and fantasy films and TV shows. If you want to acquire sword skills for film and TV work then this is the weapon for you.
No previous experience of stage combat is required but, if you're a beginner and have done the Introduction to Stage Combat Weekend Workshop on 2nd and 3rd October 2021, you'll already have covered some of the basics so will have a head start in learning those techniques and principles.
In addition to learning techniques for sword & shield and a fight choreography, the course will also help you develop a professional knowledge and understanding of the principles and methods used in stage combat weapons work including fundamental safety techniques, effective staging, acting and performance skills.
The course is over 30 hours of training and on the final day you will have the opportunity to perform the fight choreography with a partner within a dramatic scene with dialogue for the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat Fight Performance Exam. The course is accredited for certification in Broadsword with the BASSC. This is an industry recognised qualification.
This course runs over three full weekends. You must attend all days to do the Fight Performance Exam.
The exam fee is included in the course price.
