About the Event
This 2-day weekend workshop is for those with little or no previous experience of stage combat and those who already have a weapon qualification but want to refresh those skills. (Please note this is not a certification renewal workshop). You then have a chance to play with other weapons before committing to a full certification course.
It will cover:
(Day 1) Thrusting and cutting attacks, parries, footwork, fundamental safety techniques and performance principles giving you strong foundation skills to build upon. The weapons we will use are Rapier & Dagger, the classic stage weapon system for the Shakespearean period. Everything you learn to do with a Rapier & Dagger you can apply to every other weapon you can study.
(Day 2) Applying the principles and techniques you learned on Saturday to other, bigger weapons. See how you need to change your physicality to manipulate them more effectively. The weapons we will use are Broadsword, Sword & Shield and Quarterstaff, all regularly seen in fantasy and historical film and tv productions.
